Three Chinese Artists and an American: Cy Twombly

Three Chinese Artists and an American: Cy Twombly
#Art

Shang Yang, Wang Chuan and Yan Shanchun present their work at the Chambers Fine Art Gallery. The exhibition shows off the styles of three diverse artists, born in the ‘40s and ‘50s, coming from varying experiences and coming of age artistically in different places in China between Hangzhou and Shenzhen. Bringing together Shang, Wang and Yan, their admiration for Cy Twombly, international famous artist whose style had a profound influence on all of them. Wang Chuan, thanks to Twombly, rethought his calligraphy, amplifying the relational complexity of the lines he painted. Yan Shanchun absorbed the capacity to blend ancient culture and modern sensibilities in multi-layered paintings. Shang Yan, just as the international artist himself, expressed cultural content in his works, while showing disdain for technical regards. The entire exhibition highlights the commitment of these three artists stuck between the need to create and a destructive power impossible to contrast.
