Fragile rubber dinghies, rafts filled with women and children on their way to the “Promised Land” with their entire lives crammed into rucksacks, barricades that become borders, built with barrels and sand-bags. A 40 square-metre house where life revolves around a single bed, heat-based maps that give strange testimony to refugee camps with the aid of thermographic cameras, ill-defined territories heatedly under contest. These are just a few of the images selected to illustrate Space at the Victoria and Albert Museum, theme of the Seventh Edition of the Prix Pictet, the international photography prize for environmental sustainability, which takes advantage of the extraordinary power of images to draw global attention to themes connected to the environment. Twelve photographers - including Beate Gütschow, Benny Lam, Richard Mosse, Munem Wasif, Sergey Ponomarev, Pavel Wolberg - display their work at the Porter Gallery. Among them, the winner of the prize instituted in 2008 to be announced by the jury in early May.
