Will the superpowers win the day by manipulating an international chess match for political gain? From 26 April to 2 June, the London Coliseum will be home to it all - a love story set amongst political intrigues - set in the time of the Cold War. Written in 1984 by the duo of ABBA, Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus, along with Tim Rice - the mind behind Jesus Christ Superstar, The Lion King and Evita - the musical tells the story of the world’s greatest masters of chess, an American and a Russian, who risk becoming unwitting political pawns in the hands of their respective governments. Meanwhile, the real victory belongs to the heart of an extraordinary woman who comes between the two in a sort of emotional triangle. On the notes of I Know Him So Well, One Night In Bangkok, Anthem, Someone Else's Story, the complex game plays out among passions and political struggles that threaten to destroy life and love. This highly awaited production is directed by Laurence Connor, while the multiple-award-winning Orchestra and Chorus of the English National Opera are directed by John Rigby with choreography by Stephen Mear. The cast includes actor and singer Michael Ball, with his stupendous voice.
