Protagonists of the new exhibition at the GAM of Milan, the Middle East and North Africa. The epic title, Una Tempesta dal Paradiso: Arte Contemporanea del Medio Oriente e Nord Africa, contains a simple and powerful message - “In this critical moment of history, we hope that these works will stimulate reflections and discussions on the world we live in.” - this is surely the hope of the Director of the Foundation and of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum of New York, Richard Armstrong. Sara Raza, curator the exhibition and of the project Guggenheim UBS MAP, for the Middle East and North Africa, put together the works of thirteen artists to explore vital themes, such as displacement and migration, but also history and global economics. The works gathered for Una Tempesta dal Paradiso give voice to a region in rapid evolution, at the centre of an international diaspora. “This new exhibition at the Galleria d'Arte Moderna of Milan interacts with the specific historic and cultural values of the architecture of the building and offers urgent questions on immigration and the movement of people in the various regions of the world, including Italy,” clarifies Raza. The exhibition had previews at the Guggenheim Museum in New York in April of 2016 within a program for supporting contemporary art and education sponsored by the Guggenheim and the Swiss bank UBS.
