At the Palazzo Reale, Luxury on Display
#Exhibitions

An imperial table in ancient wood, enigmatic jewellery made in Venice, the silk housecoat of Gabriele D’Annunzio. These are some of the many faces of luxury, a word the origins of which evoke light, but also the eternal dream of fulfilling one’s lusty desires. Excess, sensuality, pleasures that come together in this waltz in which Apollo and Dionysus converge in the brocades of Rubelli and rarities in porcelain and silver from Geminiano Cozzi and Zaramella, gold jewellery and majolica works from the Museo delle Arti Decorative of Castello Sforzesco. The vital relationship between the ancient and modern, tradition and innovation, luxury craftsmanship at the Palazzo Reale as a sparkling backdrop to highlight the creativity of artists, ateliers and contemporary designers. And while in the “Stanza della Giostra”, luxury is shown through the history of costumes in a way that confounds illusion and reality, 17th Century harps and amber vases from Venini accompany one’s vision towards the magnificence of power. Mounted in the Appartamento dei Principi, the exhibition Luxus - Lo Stupore della Bellezza is a journey that retraces, from a historical and conceptual point of view, the transformations of the idea of luxury. The itinerary, mapped out by reflections of light, an open book with a Montegrappa fountain pen, a sort of through-line, offers the visitor a poetic phrase about beauty. The rare pieces of remarkable contemporary craftsmanship from the Maison Roberto Coin dialogue with gold and porcelain watches from the Poldi Pezzoli Collection, while examples of contemporary luxury by Damiani follow the flow of time with the deliberateness of an hour-glass.
