Storage Memory by Christian Boltanski

Storage Memory by Christian Boltanski
#Exhibitions

A ten-ton pile of clothing, hundreds of images showing the faces of children and old people, the echo of thousands of heartbeats, all on display at the Power Station of Art, for the first personal exhibition in China dedicated to Christian Boltanski, a key figure in the post-war artistic panorama. Through installations, videos, sounds and shadow-theatre, the exhibition Storage Memory relies on the power of visual, audio and psychological suggestion - a moving experience that invites spectators to create emotional ties and enrich their “memory archive”, made up of personal stories and collective events. The French artist uses quotidian objects, charged with personal and individual meaning that, together, help to build an archive of humanity. On display, not only the most important works by Boltanski, but also his latest work commissioned by the PSA itself, The Archives of the Hearts (Les Archives du Coeur, 2005) set up in a 165-metre-high smokestack. Visitors are also invited to personally join with the special creative force of the artist by recording their heartbeats.
