Stories of the Great City, According to Liu Dao

Stories of the Great City, According to Liu Dao
#Exhibitions

Nostalgic and intriguing, Shanghai Stories is the new exhibition of Liu Dao, electronic art collective that works with multimedia techniques, principally LED, interactive components, photography, video, neon, sculpture and post-contemporary painting. The summer exhibition at Island6, headquarters of Liu Dao, allows the public to explore the invisible and less evident aspects of Shanghai. A city hidden, even from the eyes of its very own inhabitants. According to the idea of the collective, there is the city and, then, there are the people that live in it. Often, the urban dramas and the citizens coexist on different levels, dwellers of parallel dimensions. In terms of daily life, there are the most-evident townhouses and skyscrapers, the perfume of baozi and youtiao, the traffic, dancing grandmas and grandpas that practice taichi. Human figures and situations that coexist, but only meeting on the daily trip, before 9 a.m., on the way to the office, and, after 5 p.m., on the way back home. Old and new, dynamism and immobility are the contrasts that generate these stories, part of the lives of the locals and the many expats that have made their home here. The urban jungle is the protagonist of the new works carried out by the Liu Dao collective that, with the exhibition Shan-ghai Stories tries to attain the impossible - bring the public back to the city in which it has been all along!
