With the exhibition Shaping the Essence at the Danysz Gallery, Chen Yingjie presents his latest works. Recently nominated among the “25 Contemporary Chinese Artists to Know” by the magazine American Complex , the young artist, better known by his nickname Hua Tunan, started studying traditional Chinese painting at the age of six, under the guidance of his father, creating a solid base for his artistic career. It was during his studies in Singapore that he was inspired by Western street art - and from this came the birth of his unique style. For Chen Yingjie, graffiti is an artistic performance, with a combination of sensations, power and speed. Drawing on this language, Chen Yingjie created his technique, drawing on paper, canvas and walls, finding inspiration everywhere. His art is born out of the meeting between traditional Chinese ink painting and graffiti, various mediums, materials and places - all these elements of visual arts bring Chen Yingjie to explore the relationship between traditional Oriental painting and Western street art. The various dimensions of painting and the requirements created by space offer a series of new challenges for the artist. Chen Yingjie / Hua Tunan combines landscape painting with abstract expressionism, adding his ink spraying technique. In the creative process, movement encounters painting in an unprecedented way. He even created the large work on display during a special performance at the gallery itself.
