London stretches its muscles for the traditional Marathon which, this 22 April, will fill the streets of the capital with forty-thousand big-hearted runners in this fundraising race. The celebrated event, held annually, is sponsored by Virgin Money, and is one of the world’s largest fundraising events with over 830 million sterlings being raised since the first race in 1981. From Greenwich to Buckingham Palace, crossing Tower Bridge, passing the Tower of London, Parliament, Big Ben, the London Eye, a spectacular parade of athletes, professionals and absolute beginners, running a little over forty kilometres over this remarkable course through the capital, warmed by Spring and the unique atmosphere that has evolved around this traditional event. Starting the race by pushing a button at Windsor Castle at 10am on 22 April, just after her 92nd birthday, her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II. Among the athletes competing in the Marathon, the 33rd Olympic champion, Kenyan runner Eliud Kipchoge who has already won the London marathon twice, as well as Mo Farah and defending champion Daniel Wanjiru.
