Bodies, heads, portraits, sculpted environments where the presence of man is confined in narrow and desolate spaces pervaded by a sense of existential solitude, conducts the eye towards the cutting reality of the existential realism of Franco Fossa. Dominated by the overwhelming presence of alienation and the loss of human values, the works of the Milanese sculptor throughout all the evolutive phases of his career - from the 1950s to the 1990s - are on display at the Biblioteca of the Accademia di Brera. Oscillating between “environments and planes”, finding volumetric balance and spatial harmony, the graphic research of Fossa highlights the pressing idea of alienation and awareness regarding the evils within the human social sphere. With this state of the soul ever-present, the artist amplifies the interior world with spirals of light that break through the weightiness of boxes, cubes and parallelograms.
