The Visions of Lu Yang at the M Woods Museum

With her powerful capacity for creating video installations which synthesise the courageous interdisciplinary studies on neuro-science and inter-cultural religious iconography, Lu Yang arrives at M Woods with her first personal exhibition in China. The artist from Shanghai, born in 1984, graduated from the China Academy of Art, fascinated by “bio-art” and biology itself, but also science in general, which she considers “a tool of the modern era” and the theme of death, present in most of her works as part of the “natural” experience, is at the centre of what is being billed as a truly special event in art. Three new ambitious works accompany a selection of already noteworthy pieces, in a sort of exhibition/performance, created especially for the museum’s spaces, offering visitors a look at the highly personal universe of the artist, whose works were featured at the Biennale of Venice in 2015. Known for works such as Welcome to LuYang Hell, LuYang Delusional Crime and Punishment and LuYang Delusional Mandala, After Us, Lu Yang has earned a place, thanks to her sharp sense of criticism and conceptual provocation, a top place among artistic innovators in the Nation.
