1978: a Year of Change

1978: a Year of Change
#Exhibitions

Through around 100 works, from its own collection, the Long Museum in West Bund looks at the most influential names and events in Chinese art of the last forty years. It offers oil paintings and works in ink - the most traditional Chinese method - along with sculpture, videos and installations. An echo to the 40th Anniversary of Chinese Economic Reform and the third Plenary Session of the Chinese Communist Party, the exhibition is developed by looking at 1978 as a watershed year, the year that left its mark on the history of the Nation and, subsequently, had a profound influence on art. The exhibition moves along chronologically in four sections: 1978-1984; 1985-1989; 1990-1999; After 2000. The exhibition seeks to analyse, not only artistic practices and the explorations of Chinese artists in the past, but also testifies to the vigour and vitality of contemporary Chinese art, its spirit and its unique quality.
