A Journey through the Archival Material of the Publication Fine Arts in China
#Exhibitions

In keeping with the curatorial and exploratory spirit of the Inside-Out Museum, this exhibition draws on the archive of Zhang Qiang and recalls the history of the publication Fine Arts in China, which from 1985 to 1989 gave visibility to art criticism and the works of contemporary Chinese artists and became the centre of the New Wave Art '85 movement. Zhang Qiang, forward-looking editor of Fine Arts in China, has invited artists, collectives, and theorists to present their backgrounds, training, artistic influences and works in the magazine’s pages since the late 1980s. Much of this material has gone into Zhang's text New Tides of Painting, which accurately charts the development of contemporary art during one of the most fertile and dynamic periods in Chinese art. This exhibition allows visitors to follow the evolution of some of the most important figures of the Chinese panorama through an ambitious story written with the greatest philological accuracy. An exhibition of great academic and artistic value, systematically and rigorously curated.
