Futurism of the Past - the Past and the Future of Chinese Contemporary Art

Futurism of the Past - the Past and the Future of Chinese Contemporary Art
#Exhibitions

Futuristic visions of cities suspended between reality and imagination, urban scenes set between skyscrapers that evolve in a continual metamorphosis, references to virtual reality, to the necessity to break out into a new dimension yet to be written and thinking from scratch while using new technologies and tradition not as an ossified entity, an intangible but something to be explored with new means - these are the cardinal themes of this exhibition curated by Bao Dong. Conceived as a tandem and introductory event to the Beijing Contemporary Art Expo 2021 - of which the curator of the exhibition is also the artistic director - the collective exhibition moves on a double track, both past and future, positing how we can learn from both and how they are often superimposed in many cases. The participating artists, from Cao Fei to Jiang Zhi, from Aujik to Wu Jian’an are present inside the Beijing Exhibition Center, located in the Western side of Beijing, an area which has little to do with the contemporary art circuit of the city and for this reason it is being highlighted by the fair and other cultural initiatives connected to it.
