The Body by Geof Oppenheimer Debuts in Beijing
#Exhibitions

People in Reverse is the first personal exhibition for Geof Oppenheimer in Beijing and presents a series of new works by the artist, a well-known sculptor but also a multi-talented person who operates in the most far-ranging spread of mediums, from video production to photography. Three archetypal figures, commissioned by the UCCA Center for Contemporary Art in collaboration with the Diriyah Biennale Foundation, dominate the conceptual and visual narrative of the exhibition which is hosted in the spaces of the central gallery - the businessman, the standard bearer and the observer. These figures are placed in a conceptual space which is “immersive” by nature, in which the walls, the floors, prime materials and mass-produced products, all create the ideal background, acting as a commentator for the itinerary of the exhibition. The exhibition places a special emphasis on the artist’s use of the body - the body and physicality act as privileged means for reflecting on the contemporary human condition, on existential problems, on the value of civic participation in an ever-increasingly odd and alienating world.
