Celebrated for his paintings, few people know that Pablo Picasso was one of the most creative and influential talents ever to explore the medium of printmaking. In addition to his many paintings, sculptures and drawings, the artist born in Malaga in 1881 produced over 2.400 prints during his lifetime. The British Museum houses the largest and most representative collection of Picasso prints in the UK. The exhibition features prints made in the early 1900s, before and after Picasso's groundbreaking painting Les Demoiselles d'Avignon (1907), which paved the way for Cubism. It also includes a group of prints from the Suite Vollard, a series of 100 etchings made in the 1930s that show the influence of classical art on Picasso's work and reflect his tumultuous personal life.
