From Burma to Myanmar, a Journey Through 1500 Years of History
#Exhibitions

A great journey to the Far East to discover for the first time in a great exhibition in the United Kingdom the extraordinary history of Myanmar, a South-East Asian nation with more than 100 ethnic groups, bordering India, Bangladesh, China, Laos and Thailand and formerly known as Burma. On the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the country's independence, the British Museum brings this unprecedented exhibition to life and offers the opportunity to learn how Myanmar has shaped its present during its 1500-year history. An interconnected yet isolated country, rich in natural resources such as jade, rubies and teak but where much of the population lives below the poverty line, Myanmar has gone from being an influential Asian superpower, through more than a century of British colonial rule to transform today into a repressive regime governed by a military dictatorship. This London exhibition comprises over 110 unique objects, drawn from the London museum's collection, complemented by spectacular loans from across the UK, Germany and Singapore, most of which will be on public display for the first time.
