While astronomers are busy studying the signals picked up by the radio-telescope Fast, the powerful Sky Eye which seems to have found evidence of extraterrestrial life in a distant galaxy, Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster explores the vastness of the universe with the tools of art in a large site-specific exhibition at the Serpentine. Among the most influential artists of her generation, Gonzalez-Foerster transforms the internal and external spaces of the South Gallery into a spectacular outerspace environment - “a mutant location which contributes to the invention of new technologies of awareness. A contrasting vision to War of the Worlds,” explains the artist. Imagined but possible encounters, unexpected forms of love and connection awaiting visitors to Alienarium 5, which took shape thanks to the collaboration of the artist with writer and philosopher Paul B. Preciado, musician Julien Perez and fragrance maker Barnabé Fillion. Multi-user VR technologies do the rest while the engaging Metapanorama - visionary immersive 360° collage - brings together, human creatures and non-human and extraterrestrial creatures in a world without confines.
