One-Thousand Miles. A mad run, wearying, through town and country, mountain and seaside, day and night. The road winding under rumbling cars, eyes wide-open through exhaustion, faces without a tremor, drivers with nerves of steel,” wrote Giuseppe Tonelli in the newspaper La Stampa in 1927. The thrill is back 93 years after the first edition, as the most high-end vintage car competition in the world. Four-hundred collectible sports cars chosen from those built during the 30 years of the actual competition (1927-1957) will race along the roads of Northern and Central Italy with the start and finish in Brescia. The landscapes of Garda, with Desenzano and Sirmione, will lead to the art-filled cities of Verona, Mantova, Ferrara and Ravenna, before reaching the “Riviera Romagnola”, the hills of Umbria and the Marche, and the Capital with the traditional procession on Via Veneto. The return route heads through Tuscany and Emilia, with legs through Siena, Lucca, Parma and, finally, Milan, to head onto the winner’s podium of Viale Venezia in Brescia after three thrilling days. The “world’s most unique travelling museum” of 1000 Miles - that’s how Enzo Ferrari defined it - is comprised, this year, by incredible cars more carefully selected for quality and originality than ever before. With its amazing historical resonance, its futuristic outlook and its setting among the beauty of Italy, this event is know being considered to be listed as part of Unesco’s World Intangible Cultural Heritage list.
