Daniel Pommereulle, violence is art
#Exhibitions

Daniel Pommereulle is a Parisian painter, sculptor, lithographer, film director and poet who died in 2003. Known to the general public for his role as a "dandy" in Éric Rohmer's film La Collectionneuse and for his performances in many other famous Nouvelle Vague titles, Pommereulle in his artistic practice - both graphic and sculptural - through the use of glass, stone and steel, sought to channel cosmic energies. Until his death, according to Armance Léger, “transparency, air and emptiness are the new terms of his exploration”. At the same time, in his artistic work Pommereulle uses an aesthetic of violence and cruelty, staging offensive objects and torture devices, which "directly threaten" visitors. A sort of challenge to common morality that reflects the violence of the world. A sensitivity that originates from the trauma experienced firsthand by Pommereulle in the Algerian War in 1957.
