Rei Naito is a Japanese artist who explores how human existence is shaped, felt and represented in its natural environment. Naito often uses organic materials and found objects to create immersive environments that through the use of light and sound are able to create an intimate and transitory encounter between people in the audience and her works of art. This exhibition was born from Rei Naito's discovery of the collections of sculptures and clay objects created by the populations who inhabited Japan in the Jōmon period, that long prehistoric span dating between 14.,000 and 300 BC and which was characterized by the gradual transition from nomadism of hunter-gatherers to the sedentary one of agriculture. A journey into the prehistory of Japan which - reread through the eyes of Rei Naito - recalls the intimate harmony that existed at that time between men and nature and where the artist today finds a compassion and spirituality that permeates everything.
