The Paradise of Herons in the Tiny Village of Petulu

The Paradise of Herons in the Tiny Village of Petulu
#BvlgariStories

There is a tiny village, North of Ubud, where it seems life stood still centuries ago. In Petulu, the “Paradise of the Herons”, it is possible to enjoy an immersive and enthralling birdwatching experience with the backdrop of a breathtaking sunset, observing multitudes of cattle egrets and little egrets, two different types of herons, which crowd the pohon bunut wot, particular types of ficus with strong but flexible branches, typical of the area. At sunset, from a panoramic platform in the village, one can observe the incredible natural phenomenon of thousands of Kokokan, white-plumed herons that, every evening, return “home” at the end of the day, from every part of the island to nest in the beloved trees of the village. Around five o’clock in the afternoon, you can enjoy this magic moment, seated comfortably, sipping a drink, among the rice paddies and palm trees, accompanied by the song of these fascinating herons in total tranquility. The inhabitants of Petulu attribute sacred importance to these white herons. If you have the good fortune to visit Bali between October and March, it is the period with the greatest concentration of these fantastic birds and the show is guaranteed.
