The first chapter of a project divided into three parts, Who Owns Nature?, underway at the Macalline Art Center and curated by Yang Beichen is a more-relevant-than-ever reflection on the idea of hybridisation, inter-relations and inter-dependence between diverse organisms and species, whether human, animal or microbial. From the encounter between these elements, key to understanding the present and deciphering the future, new potentials and territories to explore are born. The artists on display - from Carolina Caycedo & David de Rozas, Sergio Rojas Chaves, Sheryl Cheung and Rometti Costales to Patricia Domínguez, Jes Fan, Fei Yining and Liu Chuang, to name a few - are contemporary ethnographers and shamans constructing original cosmological models through their interactions with plants, animals, viruses, microbes and funghi, then translated into images. Thus, an aesthetically and conceptually stratified exhibition is born, accepting the challenges of the contemporary world and translating it into an intense project which also places the Macalline Art Center at the centre of an international debate.
