Photographic Journey through the China of the XIX Century

Photographic Journey through the China of the XIX Century
#Exhibitions

The art of photography allows the public to get to know the China of the past, difficult to find in today’s daily metropolitan life. These photos transport us to the past with an immediacy that words cannot match - people, places, customs, architecture and landscapes from the second half of the 1800s narrate a piece of Chinese history in the liveliest and most-present of ways.It will be possible, in fact, to walk along a deserted Great Wall and rediscover it completely intact and authentic, or get lost in the tiny side streets of Canton, crowded with handwritten signs and red lanterns. The clothing and hair-styles of traditional China are also to be found, thanks to various photographic portraits, while ancient architecture can hardly be placed properly as it is seen in amazingly different urban contexts or ones that had yet to exist. An exhibition that brings the past and the present closer together, a journey through time well worth the effort.
