The Landscapes of Invention According to Gong Bin

The Landscapes of Invention According to Gong Bin
#Art

Gong Bin is an artist who is cementing a place in the art world. From his little studio in the 798 Art District of Beijing, he scrutinises the world, channeling his vision of reality into small works of boundless creativity. Within the limited confines of his atelier, the artist has created a universe made up of lush vegetation, poetic sunsets and tropical climes. The reality that he depicts is not born out of his direct experience, but of his imagination. Gong Bin travels through his works without ever leaving his studio in Beijing and this, his first monographic show, will take the public on this fantastic journey along with him. His works quickly envelop the spectator and rush them into the vivacity of his depictions, but the sensations that one experiences in front of his works are anything but inviting. Gong Bin is evasive in his paintings, he doesn’t depict an event or a landscape, but evokes them and leaves the interpretation up to the singular perception of each viewer, happily omitting any subject, as well as important points of reference within the scenes he represents. An inventive painting, utilising spray paint as its principal medium. Gong Bin, with this exhibition, leaps into the contemporary scene of Beijing, showing himself as an artist worth watching.
