Always looking for new experiences to nourish his creativity, Sacha Jafri is a British artist that has achieved world fame. Works of “magic realism”, as they are often described, oscillating between figurative and abstract and which are a triumph of colour and form, explode with energy. The Leila Heller Gallery of Dubai hosts two collections of Sacha Jafri simultaneously - 18 Year Retrospective, a retrospective which retraces his career, and The Journey of Humanity, a work created by the artist for charity which was sold at auction for the exceptional price of 62 million dollars. And while the price is exceptional, so is the piece - all 1800 metres of it! So large in fact, that it has been lauded by the Guinness Book of World Records as the largest painting on earth. The proceeds of the project, organised by the government of the United Arab Emirates with the support of High Highness, Sheik Mohamed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, will go to Dubai Cares, UNICEF, UNESCO and The Global Gift Foundation, not only to create infrastructure for healthcare in the world’s poorest regions, but also to remodel the future of education through global connectivity.
