Images to Tell of Mina Zayed, Between the Past and the Future

Images to Tell of Mina Zayed, Between the Past and the Future
#Exhibitions

The result of a collaboration with Gulf Photo Plus, begun in February of 2020, Mina Zayed: Reflections on Past Futures at Warehouse 421 in Abu Dhabi is an exhibition which explores and speaks of the evolution of the commercial port of Abu Dhabi: Mina Zayed. Eleven artists using various expressive means, ranging from photography to video, from graphic design to digital illustration and even installations, have created an archive of images of documentary and artistic value. The area of Mina Zayed was fundamental to the economic and cultural growth of Abu Dhabi, representing a functional space, but also a place for meeting and socialising. The exhibition occurs in the light of enormous forthcoming transformations of the area. The sensation of suspension and waiting between a past that no longer exists and a future which cannot yet be seen is the common thread between the eleven artists’ works. Each has taken a personal approach, concentrating their attention on various aspects of the same context. Some have expressed melancholy for a landscape which will disappear while others have focused on the future, with an attentive eye to respecting and preserving the environment. And still others have dipped into their own memories, recreating scenes from their childhood with Mina Zayed as the backdrop.
