Over 40 sculptures created by 17 artists of various generations, styles and materials are on display at the Opera Gallery of Dubai. Tête di Femme, bronze work by Amedeo Modigliani, which reproduces one of his iconic female faces, brings us back to 1910. From here, however, we jump ahead a whole century, stopping briefly in the 1960s at American Pop Art with the sculpture Love by Robert Indiana. Contemporary to and growing up in the same cultural context as Indiana, is Alex Katz, New York artist of Russian origins, with 9 works in the exhibition from the series Black Dress, created in 2018. Leaving Pop Art behind, we come to our current century where, next to the works of Manolo Valdés and Ferdinando Botero, we find those of younger artists like Indian-born Valay Shende and the South Korean Seo Young-Deok, with his faces and bodies created from iron chains. Following the abstract, we come to, among others, the sculptures of Pablo Atchugarry, some in Carrara marble and others in bronze, the intricate steel ropes of the French artist Benoit Lemercier and the Stella del Mattino, a bronze sculpture by Venetian artist Gianfranco Meggiato.
