The name of Jean Dubuffet is inextricably linked to Art Brut, a concept born in the heart of Paris in the post-war period to define pure, raw, unfiltered art, an expression of unexpected beauty. Art Brut includes artistic productions that are outside conventional aesthetic norms and are created by non-professionals or boarders in psychiatric hospitals. Drawings, paintings, sculptures and textile works: the supports are the most diverse. A source of inspiration for many contemporary artists, Art Brut is still vital today, in the belief that art is within everyone's reach. Coming from the collection of Jean Dubuffet, a writer and artist himself, the works on display are the fruit of his explorations, testimony to the breadth and quality of his research in this field before the donation to the City of Lausanne in 1971.
