Always a crossroads of Italian and international artists, Milan is a city of art, also thanks to far-sighted patronage and collecting. The exhibition, divided into ten chronological sections, tells the story of the city's deep connection with art and artists. When the great construction site of the Duomo began in the Middle Ages, several German workers came to Milan to find employment. During the Renaissance, the city hosted Leonardo da Vinci who designed and invented numerous interventions for Ludovico il Moro. In the following centuries, cultural exchanges with Venice were remarkable until the nineteenth century when the Lombard capital became the epicenter of the Risorgimento movements that would lead to the unification of Italy, attracting intellectuals and artists. But it was at the beginning of the twentieth century that Milan became the capital of Modernity, also thanks to the push of the avant-garde of Futurism. In the short century, a system of galleries and exhibitions unique in Italy, brought to the city great personalities from all over the world as well as Masters from other Italian centers thanks to which new experiments were carried forward.
