Until November 19, 2023 Fabbrica del Vapore in Milan hosts the photographic exhibition Amazônia by the celebrated Brazilian photographer Sebastião Salgado. With over 200 photographs on display, Amazônia wants to offer a total immersion in the Amazon Forest, inviting us to reflect on the need to protect it. The exhibition develops around two themes: landscape photography and that of indigenous peoples. The first group is represented by the sections Overview of the Forest, in which the visitor is presented with the Amazon seen from above, Flying Rivers, one of the most extraordinary and at the same time least known features of the rainforest, Tropical Storms, Mountains, The Forest, once called the "Green Hell", now presented to the viewer as an extraordinary treasure of nature, and Islands in the River, the archipelago emerging from the waters of the Rio Negro. The second group of images in the Amazônia exhibition is dedicated to the various indigenous populations immortalized by Salgado during his numerous travels: from the Awá-Guajá, to the Yawanawá up to the Korubo. “This exhibition aims to recreate the environment of the Amazon Forest - explains Salgado - a forest that I have lived, documented and photographed for more than seven years, giving the possibility for life and nature to escape destruction and depredation in the hope that every single human being on the planet takes part in its protection".

Until recently, China seemed like a remote, distant, mysterious place. Revealing itself, it has suddenly upset all the hierarchies consolidated up to now, from a historical, social and economic point of view but also from an artistic and cultural point of view. Suddenly everything that happens in China also affects us, directly or indirectly.
