“Kromo: the chromatic material that becomes painting itself. Kronos: the time of phenomenon and transformation, the relations between materials, their attractions or repulsions. A sort of ritual in which colour is also odour, sensation, it is the quest for a totality where the inexorability of natural material, every linguistic mediation abandoned, leads directly to life.” That is how Renata Boero illustrates his own work - colour, material and craftsmanship brought together in a practice that leaves ample space for nature, both in creating the work, as well as in its future evolution. Since the ‘60s, Boero has been carrying out his research and the Museo del Novecento pays homage to him during Art Week. On display, the original Cromogrammi, the more recent series Germinazioni e Fiori di Carta, as the very latest work Ctoniografie, the work that completes itself after being buried. The exhibition is an invitation to enter into the intimate space of the artist’s studio to better understand his creative process thanks to a look at tools, photos, notes and published works. But how do the multicoloured works of Renata Boero come into being? They are submerged in a mix of herbs, roots and natural pigments - folded over like the pages of a book, they absorb colour along lines that define rhythm and design in a sort of chromatic narrative. Colour is the “material and matrix” of painting, the true author that, over time, through contact with atmospheric agents, determines their unstable destiny.
