Live with Vico Magistretti: the Secret Life of Design
#Exhibitions

“The object belongs to its life,” said Vico Magistretti. But what is the life of a table, a bed, a lamp? We form it with our habits, our gestures, our affections, our imagination. The cult pieces of the Milanese designer return to the fore in the exhibition created by the Fondazione Magistretti to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the designer’s birth, occurring in 2020. It is not a simple exhibition, but an invitation to look at these objects in terms of their daily function in the lives of all of us - sleeping, eating, relaxing, overcoming the darkness. In the itinerary curated by historian and anthropologist Claudio Rosati and set up by Luca Poncellini, the products designed by Magistretti for Artemide, Flou, De Padova, Oluce and Schiffini shed light on a life lived through an intertwining of biological necessity, history and culture. It is an opportunity to explore the profound connection that binds us to things and to investigate, with amused awareness, the network of relations beneath the surface of things, discovering, in the end, that not even their use and most eccentric associations can exhaust the infinite interpretability of objects. This is also the case - or better, it is especially the case - with those objects created by a brilliant designer.
