Is it possible to consider fashion, for its nature of industry, hybrid and experimental character, as well as its capacity for communication, a scientific and poetic practice, hence literary? It is from this question that the exhibition takes form in the halls of the home-museum of Poldi Pezzoli, hosting some of the most important names of today’s fashion world. The title already reveals its connection to the work by Italo Calvino, a series of lectures that the Italian writer and intellectual was to give in 1985 at Harvard University, published by his wife Esther after his sudden demise. The title chosen by the writer was Six Memos for the Next Millennium. This treatise by Calvino offers a critical reflection on the capacity of fashion to not only manage products but messages as well. The museum’s spaces come alive with clothes, objects and magazines. Among these, dresses by Giorgio Armani, Versace, J.W. Anderson for Loewe, Alessandro Michele for Gucci, Giambattista Valli, Riccardo Tisci per Burberry, Maria Grazia Chiuri for Dior, Maison Martin Margiela and Pierpaolo Piccioli for Valentino.
