Three camels move across a landscape dominated by oil wells in flames and a young boy reads right next to an elephant, while on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame, a man with a poodle on a leash pays his respects to a great film producer. In the new spaces dedicated to photography, MUDEC Photo, 60 iconic shots by the great American photographer Steve McCurry, narrate a thousand stories of daily life involving the everlasting connection between man and beast. The project Animals was born in 1992 during Steve McCurry’s mission to the area of the Gulf-War to document the disastrous environmental impact in the area of the conflict. Starting with that photo-service, the themes which have always spoken to the artist’s heart (his attention to children, the conditions for civilians in areas of conflict and the consequences of natural disasters) expanded to include an increased interest in the welfare of animals. Animals as a means of survival, but also as the only solution to misery, beloved as life-partners, protagonists of timeless images, from the most dramatic to those that shine for their total lightness and positivity.
The exhibition returns to Gallery Focus, the documentary itinerary of the history of the Italian art galleries that, from the 1950s to today, contributed to defining the identity of contemporary art in Italy.
