To celebrate the 50th anniversary of Pablo Picasso's death, the Musée du Luxembourg is proposing a major exhibition centered on the extraordinary friendship between the modernist genius and Gertrude Stein, two icons of the 20th century. Writer, poet, Jewish American immigrant, Gertrude moved to Paris in 1903 shortly after the arrival of a young Picasso. Their friendship crystallized around their respective works, progenitors of Cubism and of the pictorial and literary avant-gardes of the twentieth century. Examining their friendship and complicity, reviewing their talent and success achieved among posterity, the exhibition of the Musée du Luxembourg traces a century of art, poetry, music and theater through great characters such as Henri Matisse, Marcel Duchamp, Ed Ruscha , Andy Warhol, Bruce Nauman, Carl Andre, Joseph Kosuth, Philip Glass.
