A Portrait of China Today

A Portrait of China Today
#Exhibitions

Song Ta, Wang Xingwei and Xu Zhen® are the stars of Forget the Horizon at the K11 Art Museum, the non-profit space inside the K11 Shopping Mall, founded by the famed businessman and patron Adrian Cheng. Chinese curator Lu Mingjun gathers together for the first time, and in this peculiar moment of history, the works of three artists of the highest regard. Born in three areas of China with intense local identities but in totally different periods - Wang Xingwei was born in Shenyang in Northeastern China in 1969, Xu Zhen® in Shanghai in 1977 and Song Ta in the province of Guangdong in 1988 - the three are linked by well-defined artistic language, full of humour, frankness of spirit and a capacity to fool around with what is considered sacred and, thus, untouchable. Through the interweaving but also the collision of diverse narratives and approaches, the exhibition brings together paintings, installations and videos that contribute to offering a portrait of China today - the surreal tones, the irony, even the cynicism used by the artists reveal the status of the cultural, social and political life of China in the era of post-globalisation.
