A Mountain of Light

A Mountain of Light
#Art

A gathering of lamps makes up an ascending figure, a mountain - Fuzz. The site-specific installation that gives this exhibition its name was created with furnishings from the Rokko Oriental Hotel, closed in 2007. The lights flash on and off, following the sound of wind that rushes through the gallery. Hisakado recorded this sound on the top of Mount Rokko - the recording is of storm winds, the fury of nature. According to the artist, we are seeing a revolt of the environment against invasive modernity, as is the case with the Rokko Oriental Hotel, which was built, cutting right into the mountain. Next to the luminous mountain, a tiny sculpture appears. It is a tree branch, tied to the hands of a clock - a reflection of the relation between objects created by man, the action of time and the elements of nature. Nature, time and space are themes which are dear to Hisakado (protagonists also of Apichatpong Weerasethakul a work realized at the 58th Venice Biennale of Art). Subjects visited once again in the series Crossfades - the lines of ink are actually minuscule series of numbers, which the spectator can only see by looking through a magnifying glass. Simple objects, sounds and lights that invite the spectator to discover both the beauty and complexity of the universe.
