China in Focus - Ten Journeys with a Camera

China in Focus - Ten Journeys with a Camera
#Exhibitions

The journey as experience, historic and personal research, social investigations of cities and peoples, seen from a point of view that only a camera and an attentive eye can capture - these are the ingredients of Social Geography: Ten Journeys with a Camera, an exhibition where ten photographers are called upon to portray contemporary China. Each of them has travelled thousands of kilometres, exploring geographical time and space, but also droves of personal stories, gathered while walking upon the populace in various cities, telling of the various speeds with which the Nation is changing. In these photos are a vast gamma of sensations and moods - pathos next to irony, melancholy and humour, scenes that are never constructed but captured. And, in as much, they immortalise the diversity of experiences that each photographer encountered along their path. This is the first of a series of exhibitions planned by the SCoP that look at daily life in continental China which will run through the summer of 2019. The exhibition includes work by Chen Ronghui, Gan Yingying, Li Lang, Luo Dan, Mu Ge, Shi Yangkun, Wang Yingying, Zhang Kechun, Zhang Xiao and Zhuang Hui.
