The Long Museum Opens its Doors to Brazil

The Long Museum Opens its Doors to Brazil
#Art

Recent paintings, collages and sculptures, along with a site-specific installation created in vinyl right on the front window of the Long Museum reconstruct the creative universe of Beatriz Milhazes - famed and acclaimed Brazilian artist - whose work is synonymous with lively colours, varying textures and optical illusions. Working with a vast gamma of mediums and methods, the abstract poetry of Beatriz Milhazes blends varying forms, images and colours to create conceptually stratified and complex works which combine elements of the natural world, local Brazilian culture and the long tradition of European abstract art. The exhibition offers a full view of the work of Milhazes, from the decal approach as a basis for paintings, to collages created with found cards, candy wrappings, labels and fragments of silk-screens. The sculptures - composed of coloured objects stuck on thin vertical chords, suspended from the ceiling to the floor - interact with the movement of the public and represent an added value to the already rich presentation.
