The Norwegian Dream in Shanghai

The Norwegian Dream in Shanghai
#Exhibitions

At OCAT Shanghai, an exhibition that unites five of Norway’s most important contemporary artists - Anne Katrine Dolven, Ignas Krunglevičius, Camille Norment, Jana Winderen and Tori Wrånes. A collective exhibition that aims at exploring the world of dreams, the subconscious and memories. A reflection on the meaning of dreams - while in civilisations of the past, great philosophers and thinkers investigated, speculated and fantasised about this world, for contemporary society, dreams represent an obscure and mysterious world. For example, with A Other Teenager, Anne Katrine Dolven transports visitors to a parallel universe, in which our dreams and deepest thoughts reside - a video, projected onto a 16-metre screen, shows 20 “performer/dreamers” sleeping on top of each other as they are surmounted by a youth that dreams and moves atop them, as in a disturbed dream. A harmonious image, which is, however, repeatedly interrupted by the screeching sounds of a guitar, breaking up the composition, smashing the stream of consciousness - a place where time is no longer an accurate measure but something distant itself.
