For the Weather Station exhibition at Hyundai Motorstudio Beijing, artists Moon Kyungwon and Jeon Joonho collaborated with experts in design, architecture, science, and philosophy to propose alternative ideas for human survival in an ever-changing global environment. The exhibition focuses on redefining the relationship between humans, nonhumans, and nature in the age of AI. For example, the work To Build a Fire (2022-2024), inspired by Jack London’s 1902 short story of the same name, tells the story of the Earth’s millennial transition and climate change from the perspective of an AI-generated stone. Led by the quadruped robot Spot, visitors are invited to immerse themselves in the artistic charm of the installation, but also encounter completely new sensory experiences across the blurred boundaries between humans and not humans. Storytelling is a key element in his Moon & Jeon works. News from Nowhere: ECLIPSE (2022-2024) is the gripping story of a lone protagonist fighting for survival aboard a rescue ship on the high seas. It is more than just a survival narrative, it desperately seeks to resolve the fundamental inconsistencies of the world by bridging the gap between the real and the unreal.
