Homage to Liang Sicheng
#Exhibitions

The figure of Liang Sicheng, father of modern Chinese architecture is honoured by this monumental exhibition at the campus museum of the Tsinghua University, where Liang founded the prestigious architecture faculty. Drawings, sketches, notes, projects, antique prints and various sorts of images are among the 400 pieces on display. While constituting only a small part of the vast heritage of the architect, this body of documents and projects helps to detail the historic importance of Liang Sicheng to new generations. The great architect was not only concerned with establishing the route for the development of modern Chinese architecture, but also in systematically reconstructing its historic evolution, giving particular attention to its construction methods and conservation. All of this was thanks to the experience of study in the field and Liang Sicheng’s commitment to codifying ancient manuals and traditional techniques. The multifaceted, well-rounded talents of this Chinese architect emerge in the five sections of the exhibition which conducts the spectator through the different phases of Liang Sicheng’s career, from his early student days to his studies to his maturity and later years.
