On the trail of a pre-existing city, demolished in part, absorbed by the new Dubai for the rest, modern and constantly growing, Off Center / On Stage, on display at Jameel Arts Centre, is a journey through time and the history of the city. Todd Reisz, architect and writer, forever interested in the way that architecture is capable of channeling cultural narratives, has, over the years, gathered many images that bear witness to the changes which have occurred in Dubai. The show includes sixty photos as well as slides and photos from local and international media, many of which are on display to the public for the first time. Todd Reisz, with the support of the Jameel Arts Centre and the Barjeel Art Foundation, dedicated over a decade to this study of the city, becoming one of the most knowledgeable sources on the urban transformation of Dubai in the XX Century. Among the images on display, are a series of slides created between 1976 and 1979 by architects Stephen Finch and Mark Harris, who crossed through the city and its building sites when both of them were working with the British architectural studio of John R. Harris & Partners which was transforming the face of the city at the time.
