What can happen to the inner world when the outside world becomes more uncertain and disturbing? When what happens forces us to look deeper inside ourselves? These are the questions at the root of Age of You, "a multi-artist exploration of the extreme self". Organised by the Jameel Arts Centre in collaboration with the Museum of Contemporary Art - MOCA of Toronto, the exhibition takes on a theme which is more relevant than ever before, that of the self and inner reality, that of the re-elaboration of the inner world as a consequence to an external event which erupts in daily life, breaking the regular flow of time and actions, placing us in front of something unexpected and unpredictable. Hosted on two floors of the Jameel Arts Centre of Dubai, Age of You, includes over 70 multimedia works, created using various disciplines, such as design, cinema, photography, fashion, performance and even electronic music. Numerous international artists are involved, including Agnieszka Kurant, Koo Jeong A, Lawrence Abu Hamdan, Pamela Rosenkranz, Philippe Parreno, Thomas Hirschhorn and Michael Stipe, leader of R.E.M. For the exhibition, the book The Extreme Self has also been published, created by curators Shumon Basar, Douglas Coupland and Hans Ulrich Obrist.
