The best of Made-in-the-U.K. creativity is back at the London Design Festival, showing off the vitality of a scene without equal in all of Europe. Large installations, original productions and pioneering designs are on hand at the coolest locations in the Capital, from the Kings Cross Design District to the IQL - International Quarter London, the neighbourhood at the gates of Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. Whether its a look at the environmental crises or the new necessities born out of the pandemia, the 18th Edition of the festival is all about the present. London’s Studio Wave presents the landmark project of the year, a large-scale installation reminiscent of a Victorian greenhouse. Inside the Hothouse, the cultivation of plants which are incompatible with Britain’s climate is carried out, given the consideration that with the progression of climate change, one day, they may very well be compatible - citrus fruit, avocados, mangos, quinoa, chickpeas, pineapple and sugar cane make up a veritable edible jungle. Meanwhile, the project Unit responds to the isolation experienced in recent months, a work commissioned by the organisers of the festival to French designer Marlene Huissoud - an installation that inflates, takes form and breathes only when visitors unite and work pedals to activate the piece, demonstrating the importance of working together. The Circular Design Project by SAP Design aims at promoting sustainable production - during the nine days of the festival, it will present stories and resources for design without waste, involving the collaboration of big international brands, independent designers and agency leaders in the innovation sector.
