After an absence lasting over ten years, Maurizio Cattelan returns to Milan. In the city that was theatre to some of his most clamorous works - from the controversial “hanged children” in Piazza XXIV Maggio (2004) to the monumental sculpture L.O.V.E. in 2010 - the visionary contemporary artist is ready to share new reflections on the most disorienting aspects of daily life. Breath Ghosts Blind is a project specifically conceived for the spaces of the Pirelli HangarBicocca, bringing together unseen works and a number of historic works by the author. Imagined as a show in three acts, the exhibition offers a symbolic representation of the cycle of life in the irreverent and anti-conventional style for which Cattelan is known. Themes like human fragility, memory and the sense of personal and collective loss run along a thread suspended between hope and failure, spirit and matter, fiction and truth and always with a touch of irony. Through his biting language with its potent visual impact, Cattelan, once again, invites the public to change points of view to understand the complexity and ambiguity of reality through paradox, provocation and encounters with the most disturbing aspects of the world that surrounds us.
