From Monet to Cattelan, Plenty Not to Be Missed at Milan’s Art Week
#Art

A dazzling month, dense with events and projected towards the future - that’s the month of September in Milan. After the full immersion in the design world with the Salone del Mobile and Fuorisalone, Milan focuses on fine art with another grand fair occurring all around town. Inaugurations, extended visiting hours, guided visits, performances and open-air installations are ready to shake up the fifth edition of Art Week - seven days to breathe in the excitement of the contemporary scene and rediscover the icons of modern art with museums, galleries and exclusive private collections or allow yourself to be surprised by the charm of exhibitions in totally unexpected locations around town. Among the must-sees of the 2021 calendar of events, there’s the large exhibition dedicated to Claude Monet at the Palazzo Reale, the result of a prestigious collaboration with the Musée Marmottan of Paris, while the industrial archeological spaces of the Pirelli HangarBicocca prepare to host Breath Ghosts Blind, a long journey through the provocative art of Maurizio Cattelan. After a stop at the Museo del Novecento for a close encounter with Mario Sironi, contemporary art invades the scene with Nairy Baghramian at the GAM, Luisa Lambri at the PAC and the paintings of the 1980s at the Gallerie d’Italia, a rich calendar of exhibitions and site-specific projects. Even photography enthusiasts will find satisfaction - from Sturm und Drang at the Observatory of Fondazione Prada, to Tina Modotti, Donne, Messico e Libertà, among the top projects of the Mudec for 2021 and the poetry of Jacques Henri Lartigue at the Chiostri di Sant’Eustorgio.
