Where did figurative art go? It is alive and well as we discover at State Of, new exhibition space near Porta Romana, offering new perspectives on contemporary art. On display, 23 artists born between the ‘70s and ‘90s who, each in their own way, have chosen to bring people, landscapes and objects back to the centre of the canvas. Without fearing anachronisms, these new painters take on issues, creating around stimuli and questions straight out of politics, social realities, religion and technology. It is impossible to label the gathering of talents - as the curators write, “the adherence to one’s own self, to the singularity of the rapport between a person and a context,” is what ties them all together really, coherent with the spirit of our times. It isn’t about solitary genius - “the other individuality” is nourished by relationships with the world and other artists, a tight web of exchange, influence and open collaboration. Like a rediscovered treasure, the figure returns through a new impulse, a necessity to communicate, highlighting, once again, the capability of painting to renew itself, a language in continual evolution.
An Italian in Paris - When Gae Aulenti Restored the Musée d’Orsay
The Italian architect and designer transformed the former railway station of Gare d'Orsay, designed by architect Victor Laloux, into a treasure chest of Impressionist masterpieces.
Luigi Sacchi, Alessandro Duroni, Luca Fortunato Comerio were among the first to immortalise the city’s artistic heritage with its works of art, monuments and historic events.
