A series of surreal portraits featuring dogs in solemn poses, knocking down the pomp of art. The author of the shots is William Wegman, an eclectic master of contemporary American art, who became famous in the world art scene for the series of images featuring his dogs. Starting in the 1970s, when he met his first Weimaraner - called Man Ray - the photographer made the specimens of this breed the main subject of his shots, representing characters, fashion trends and movements in the history of art with acumen and irony. Man Ray, Fay Ray, Penny, Bobbin, Chip, Chundo, Crooky - all names of his Weimaraners - and several generations of puppies are the protagonists of large-format Polaroids: single-copy, unretouched snapshots that enhance both the spontaneity of the subjects and the photographer’s skill, allowing us to appreciate the exceptional harmony between the artist and his dogs.
